sitting in the detroit airport on my way to newburgh ny. once there i will meet my cousin erec and friends for what will be either an adventure or an experience or both. we are going to see a brazilian healer, known as john of god. though i like to think i do a pretty good job of living in the present moment, i am not known for many spur of the moment decisions. when erec called just over a week ago and told me someone in the group going to this event had cancelled, i did not hesitate, beyond checking with my midwife partner amy to see if it was cool to be gone another week. [having just completed a 2 week stint at a birth center away from home i was not sure she would warm to the idea of my taking off again for a week. but once again, she proved why i so enjoy our practice partnership....]
i know some of john of god. i have read a book about him and caught some of the media when his work was profiled on 20/20 some time ago. the main question seems to be healer or charlatan? i wonder if it matters. his work is intriguing, remarkable in ways our western medicine seldom recognizes. i was told there would be over a 1000 attending this 4 day session, the instructions encouraged us to mediate before arriving on what healing we were seeking.
healing my heart, spiritually and physically. the last six years since greg's death [my first born] have been a challenge. i don't want to say i am stuck in grief, i'm not. much of the time life goes on and i am full of daily miracles, laughter and joy. still i was aware at this last anniversary of that loss that there is still a deep sense of loss, sorrow and something else i can't quite name. physically, at 60 and overweight and not as active as i would like to be i am sure my heart and all it controls could use a boost.
so i am going with no expectations, to be present and to attend to the collective energy of healing. there is an inner knowing in each of us, of what we need at any given time. i see it at each birth i am blessed to attend as i watch women move with the energy of impending birth with a dance known only to them and to the coming child. if we stay out of their way, and allow, we witness the miracle of life.
i am open to witnessing miracles. at the very least the ny foliage should offer a viewing of the makers handiwork.
